Independent WordPress & WooCommerce theme reviews, side-by-side comparisons and real benchmark data. Analyze speed, B2B features, builder lock-in & licensing tradeoffs.
All reviews and benchmarks are produced by the WPForge engineering team — the WordPress & WooCommerce division of DEVDIY — in our own test environments. We are independent: we never accept paid placements or sponsored rankings from theme or plugin vendors. How we test →
Every theme and builder review in this archive is based on the same promise: we install it, build a realistic store or blog with it, measure what it ships to the browser, and tell you what it is like to live with. WordPress theme marketing pages all look identical — fast, flexible, SEO-ready — so the differentiating facts have to come from measurement. We record base CSS and JS payloads with and without page builders, LCP behaviour on mobile connections, WooCommerce template depth, and how much work each product expects from a developer versus a non-technical merchant. The comparisons here — Astra against GeneratePress, Elementor against Beaver Builder and similar head-to-heads — run both candidates through the identical build so the differences you see are real. The performance reviews track what each theme adds on top of WordPress core, because a theme that ships 200 KB of CSS and six font families will defeat every caching plugin you install afterwards.
Use this hub in two directions. If you are starting a new site, read the head-to-head comparisons first and then check the individual benchmarks for the shortlisted candidates. If you already run a theme and suspect it is the bottleneck, the speed-focused reviews will tell you what to measure before you rebuild anything. Conclusions are revised as vendors ship updates — the test methodology and editorial policy document how we re-verify numbers, and nothing here is paid placement. If the audit says a rebuild is cheaper than rescue, that is exactly what our free audit is for.
Divi brings visual building to shop pages; Flatsome brings catalog discipline. We ran both through a 200-product store build — the differences show up in workflow, not specs.
Comparisons Read articleBlocksy brings modern defaults and live search; GeneratePress brings a decade of discipline. We benchmarked both and rebuilt the same site twice to compare lock-in risk.
Comparisons Read articleBoth themes claim to be the lightweight WooCommerce champion. We load-tested both with 500-product catalogs on real staging hardware — the gap shows up where demos never test.
Comparisons Read articleAstra and Kadence sit one feature apart on every comparison table. We ran both through identical benchmarks, built the same landing page twice, and tracked where the difference actually shows up.
Comparisons Read articleMultipurpose themes sell "any site in one box." We measured what that flexibility costs in front-end weight and query counts — and when the tax is worth paying.
Performance Read articleChrome DevTools Coverage tab shows exactly how much of your theme code the browser never uses. How to read it, what numbers to act on, and the traps to avoid.
Performance Read articleThe hero image is usually your LCP element — and themes mishandle it in four predictable ways. Sizing, priority hints, and the markup that makes heroes load first.
Performance Read articleImporting a theme demo gives you a beautiful slow site. Where the weight hides — plugins the demo silently activated, per-demo assets, and settings that outlive their purpose.
Performance Read articleCritical CSS can cut first-paint time dramatically — or break your layout subtly. The setup we use on client sites, the pitfalls, and when not to bother.
Performance Read articleWe captured and measured the raw CSS each popular theme ships on a standard page — including unused-selector ratios. Smaller is not always cleaner, and the numbers explain why.
Performance Read articleCustom fonts are the most common LCP killer we find in theme audits. Font preload, swap rules, and subsetting — with measured before/after numbers from client sites.
Performance Read articleDemo imports leave behind sliders, widgets, orphan attachments, and enabled modules your site never uses. The cleanup checklist that reclaims 200–500 KB per page.
